“This is the message that we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”
I John 1:5
How penetrating a single light born in the darkness.
It is a wonder that one single beacon can pierce through the pitch black and illuminate an entire path for all those who should follow its beam.
In this current world and time, there has never been a darker period than the one we are blindly stumbling through. All around us sin and death are taking their toll and this “light” seems far from piercing. In fact, it is almost dull. As if its power is weak and dying, barely casting a glimpse into the shadow world where it currently resides.
It is increasingly difficult to live a light filled life in this time of darkness. Every day the light bearers find themselves pressured to give in to the lies, hatred, lust, and greed that this world presents. Sadly, more and more light falters and gives way to the darkness. Our light is flickering…We are falling away. Is there hope?
“God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”
There is an everlasting light that has broken through the barrier of the night. He has destroyed every ounce of sin with one fatal, crushing blow. He (Jesus) descended into the dark for three days and then gloriously burst forth in a blinding display of brilliance, completely freeing us from the confines of this darkness. He gave us victory, he gave us freedom, but we chose our chains.
Why is it that more and more lights falter in the night? Why is it that we continue failing to reach this world when we have been given complete freedom from our bondage?
The sad truth is that the night is blinding. Every waking hour is spent fighting a fight that has already been won but with every defeat we face, our light flickers. In these cases our power source is fatally misplaced. We’re not aptly plugged in to the right outlet. In other cases it is simply because those that falter had a false light…
“If we say we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.”
Simply said, sometimes we were never light to begin with.
So how is it that we can be light in this current time of blindness? How can we effectively reach a world that is stumbling through the filth of sin without caving in ourselves?
“…Walk in the light as He is in the light…”
The answer comes in the form of a question. Where is our battery source? Is it our own capability? (We will fall) Is it in our own strength? (We will fall) Or is it in the li(ght)fe giving flow of Jesus’ sacrificial blood on the cross? If we walk in the light as Christ is in the light we will be like Him.
The struggle is real, alive, and well. We, the light bearers, face an ever growing challenge every single day. Will we shine like Christ and change the world? Or will we fade in to the black?
Where is your power source?
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
