Darkness

The day began just as any other day

The sun was brightly shining and casting its array,

Though the air was crisp and leaves changing color

I found myself desperately searching for cover,

This was more than a five year old boy could handle

My tears trickled down as I reached for the door handle,

My emotions were raging and my fears quickly assailing

When I heard the fatal shot that ended all of my prevailing,

My heart sunk to the pit of my stomach

As I realized that I couldn’t make sense of it,

Why would daddy do such a thing?

How could he cause so much suffering?

My world came to a crashing halt

The day mommy took a bullet to her heart
