El Roi – A Lament to the God Who Sees (Me)

How far, O Lord, have your eyes wandered from me?

How much further into the depths will my soul descend?

Surely, you hear my cry, but your hand has been removed from my sight

My enemies surround my withering corpse

They laugh at my downfall, and protest my every breath

With every wink of their eye, I am played like a fool

A scorned rebuke is my drink, my food is their fist

I am reduced to ash, left to fade

How long, O Lord, will you forget me?

I recall to my mind the words you spoke to me in the quiet evening

You filled my heart with comfort and joy

I long for your voice

I long for your comforting presence

El Roi – the God who sees me

Have you turned a blind eye?

Surely not – your faithfulness is as sure as the rising sun

I will see your loving hand

I will rest in the arms of the Almighty

My enemies will find their due reward

You will not turn away, I will see the son of the morning

You are as the lighthouse guiding me home

This darkness threatens to swallow me

I have but one hope, this one thing I will cling to

You will not stand quietly by

You will rescue me from the snare of torment

You will see to it that my soul is redeemed

You will see that I am made whole

Your eyes have been opened, You have seen my despair

I will look towards the eastern sky

There you will be found

You are loved.

You are valued.

You are seen.
