Silence

I sit on the shore of this island

I look upon civilization.

It teems with life, laughter, and joy.

I can hear their echoes in the distance

But all that I feel is silence

It whispers to me in the isolation

Silence calls my name.

It’s deafening.

I have myself to blame.

I walked here.

I used to have a life of abundance;

Until a faint, rickety, old bridge attracted this wandering soul.

I stepped foot on this island and exploration drove me wild.

I could smell the ashes in the air.

My bridge had burned to the ground.

I was trapped.

Isolated.

Abandoned.

Silenced.

Then I realized I carried the matches in my hand.

Silence laughs at me.

the walls that surround me were built by my own hand
and as i’ve said in past post
    instead of protecting myself in
    i’ve walled myself out
