3 Easy Ways to Keep Your Sanity This Christmas


Let’s be real.

This time of the month presents (ha!) some of the most stressful moments of your entire year. Christmas presents need be wrapped, if you’ve actually finished shopping, that is. Meals need be made. Kids need to be put in bed. Cookies need to be put on the counter for “Santa.” (Yeah, right. We all know you’re eating them. STOP LYING TO US.)

The list goes on and on. As much fun as this season can be, stress has the propensity to 1322knock all of the joy out of the most joyful time of the year. It’s hard to sing Joy to the World through gritted teeth. It’s possible, but it’s not good for your jaws.

Out of all of the chaos surrounding us, how do we slow down and enjoy the season? How can we be the Santa of the group instead of the Grinch? Here are 3 quick, easy ways to keep your sanity this Christmas.

1.) Slow Down.

I’m sure you are letting out a muffled grunt and are tempted to close this article but please don’t! I know that it’s easier said than done but seriously, slow down. The pressure of the Christmas season isn’t worth losing your temper and making life miserable for other people. Try and keep your priorities in line. We all know Christmas isn’t about the gifts or the food. Christmas belongs to celebrating the birth of Jesus and enjoying the blessings He has given us. It’s o.k. to slow down!

2.) Remember to Breathe.

This seems like it goes hand-in-hand with slowing down but it needs to be a separate reminder in and of itself. Remember to breathe when your loved one is driving you up a wall. Remember to breathe when your crazy uncle is drunk as a skunk and is hitting on your wife (*Ahem*). Definitely remember to breathe when someone seems to be pressuring you into the holiday craziness. As vital as slowing down is, so is breathing. If you don’t, not only will you be stressed out and moody, but you’ll be passed out on the floor.

3.) Have fun!

What’s the point of slowing down and breathing? It’s because that’s what the Christmas season is for! This should be a fun and joyous time, not a season full of bickering, whining, and tears. Emotions may run high but Christmas is about more than material items. Christmas is about love…and Jesus…Lots and lots of Jesus. 🙂

So, slow down, breathe, and have fun! Enjoy the festivities, the smiling faces, and the crazy antics of that one person in your family who knows what buttons to push. They are family, after all.
