Welcome to Nostalgia Week 2k16!

2016 is coming to a close and what a year it has been. Seriously. What a year. Who would have thought that Donald Trump would be our President a year ago? Did anyone suspect that a monkey would overtake the internet for the majority of the year? #RIPHarambe

Leading up to the grand celebration this weekend, many will take introspective looks into what the year of 2016 brought to the table. There will be those who mark it as a success while others will count the blessings they have and move into the new year with little hesitation. Whatever your thoughts may be, I believe we can all agree that we’re ready for a fresh start!

What about Confessions, though?

My heart and soul has been poured into this blog for the last year so how far have we come? Did we meet the goals I set for the blog last January? What circumstances and situations have brought me to where I am? What does the future hold for Confessions?

Let’s find out!

Last year I sat down and laid out a clear vision for where I wanted Confessions to be at the end of 2016. The goals weren’t many but they were distinct. Before I answer as to whether or not I met them, what were they?

1.) To continually and more effectively pour time and energy into the blogging community.
2.) Continue establishing my voice in and outside of the Mental Health Community
3.) Advance my writing portfolio and skills
4.) Double the number of followers and countries reached.

1.) While the first three are subjective, I feel as though I made strides in each area. I’ve been incredibly blessed in meeting and sustaining friendships with so many of you. It amazes me that I’m so close to you all and I’ve never met a single one of you in person. The internet is a wonderful place full of wonderful people (You!).

2.) I’ve been able to learn so much this year concerning the world of Mental Health. I’ve deeply fallen in love with understanding, relating to, and loving those who suffer from mental disorders. In an effort to raise awareness for such disorders we created a Mental Illness Archive. This archive has several informational articles that dig into the how’s, why’s, and what’s of prevalent and major mental disorders. You can find those articles here: Archives

3.) Advancing my writing portfolio and skills is a goal that I can’t necessarily answer myself. What do you think? Have you noticed a change in the way I write? I would like to say that I’ve progressed (I’ve certainly tried) but I need your feedback. Leave a comment down below. 🙂

4.) This goal has been a fun one to watch. I can’t say that we doubled our followers in the year 2016…

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed interacting with every single one of you this year. I don’t consider you my “readers.” I consider you my friends. I’m thankful for the daily opportunity that I have to reach others with hope. This has been a humbling experience and I couldn’t have done without you!

What would writing be without growth? I have to admit, this year has been one of the most challenging years I’ve ever faced as a human being. I can’t count on two hands the number of difficult and trying circumstances I have faced. I did not handle every single one of them correctly, though. While I regret not being able to handle situations maturely, I am thankful that I’ve been able to learn and grow as a man, a writer, and a friend. While there have been many lessons, here are the three that have stuck out to me the most:

1.) Love is more than a word, it is a lifestyle.
2.) Everyone deserves a chance.
3.) God is more loving than you could fathom.

Without further adieu, here are the posts that y’all have lavished your love on this past year! Each one has a link that you can click if you’d like to reminisce or if you missed it. 🙂

Make sure you keep an eye on the website this week as we have the next entry into the Finding Who We Are series, a serious and apologetic letter that you won’t want to miss, and the grand unveiling of our plan for 2017. It’s going to be an exciting and powerful week. What else would you expect from us? 🙂

 You are loved.

You are valued.
